Greenify can work on rooted as well as on the non-rooted android phone. However, there would be negligible variances of the working and installation of this application. The differences are minimal and would go unnoticed from you. Initially, the non-rooted phones might require some additional settings during the start of the setup.
This app basically focuses on saving your battery and systematically running the apps. It keeps them in a hibernation period which is an idle state that forbids them from utilising resources from the background and draining the battery. Now, you might get confused that this application works similar to the task killer application. But it is a bit different than task killers as it not just stops the functioning of the app by utilising the powerful button in the android known as “Force Stop” but also forbids them from being reopened automatically until you don’t open it by yourself. One can also choose from “close everything” to “hibernate”. It let the users pick from either close everything and to hibernation for running other apps as they were.

When comparing with similar apps
There is a popular app named Doze that works similar to Greenify. They both shares a similar aim of optimising battery life as well as the performance. Let’s look on a detailed comparison between these two apps.
Doze can be considered as more advanced than Greenify. Unlike Greenify, it has an automated process in which it chooses directly what apps to optimizes. However, this can also be considered as a limitation. Also, it is less extreme than Greenify as it doesn’t disable the functionality of apps.
Often your battery gets drained overnight but Doze provides a smart feature that automatically comes into effect after Marshmallow up gradation of your device. It is designed to come into effect only when the display is off and the phone is motionless. This can also be a drawback because you have to turn off the screen wait for some time to get it working.
Perhaps, the biggest benefit of Greenify over Doze is you can use it while using your phone. You can open the hibernated apps and start using them again as per your will. However, the drawback is it keeps the hibernated apps entirely inactive. So, they will not function in hibernation, therefore you will miss the essential notifications from them. While with Doze, you will normally receive the notifications.
These both apps have an equal share of advantages as well as disadvantages. You can opt them according to the feature you mainly require. Nevertheless, if you look from the aspect of personalization then Greenify has definitely got an edge over Doze.
Though smartphones have undergone a greater evolution but still their battery and performance are not sufficient. These apps like Greenify are very useful in optimizing the performance and the battery as well. It is ideal for a veteran smartphone user who has several apps installed and need every bite of performance. Nevertheless, this app has a user – friendly interface that makes it easy for everyone. However, non-rooted phone users may find the processes lengthy.
